A Big Island
Kangaroo Island is the third largest island off the coast of Australia. 155 km long, up to 55 km wide,
and covering an area of 4,500 square kilometres. "We didn't realise the Island is so large" is frequently
stated by visitors soon after their arrival.

Climate
Relatively mild conditions are experienced during both summer and winter, typical of the insular character
of island climates. At times, cool ocean breezes make windproof clothing necessary, while central areas
of the Island occasionally experience temperatures of 35-40oC.
National Parks
With 21 National and Conservation Parks covering over 30% of the total area, the Island has established a reputation
for the abundance of wildlife and flora.

Getting There
Visitors can easily reach Kangaroo Island by sea or air. A short 30 minute flight from Adelaide brings visitors to
Kingscote Airport. The airport is located 13 km from Kingscote. Transport is available, but arrangements should be
made at the time of booking. Ferries operate from Cape Jervis on the mainland to Penneshaw. Coach connections are
available between Adelaide and Cape Jervis, and Penneshaw and Kingscote. Bookings are required for ferry and coach
connections.
